So Neil Diamond was the mentor on Idol this week. I knew he was a prolific song writer, penning dozens of hits for himself and other artists. I knew he wrote “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon”, “I’m a Believer” (and several other songs for The Monkees), “Solitary Man”, and numerous other songs that were made popular by other artists. I had no idea that he originally wrote “Red, Red Wine”. That’s pretty crazy. He’s penned hits for Elvis, Johnny Cash, Cliff Richard/Urge Overkill, UB40, and The Monkees.
It’s awesome that he’s still writing, recording, and performing 40 years after he started. As for my personal favorite Diamond hits…it’s a toss up between “Cherry, Cherry” and “Hello Again”. Neil is cool. He can pull off glitter and he’s performed with The Fonz.
