As a frequent United customer that flies to New York a couple of times a year, this is quite interesting. JetBlue is a pretty interesting company; it offers a quality product at great prices. The other major carriers that run SFO to JFK, United and American, should be quaking in their boots. They won’t be able to gouge customers on last-minute fares on these routes and they’ll likely loose a bit of their economy market. Of course they make much more money on these routes with their business class and first class offerings, but four flights a day at a cheaper price with better service (United’s economy service is substandard according to my pals at FlyerTalk) will clearly hurt them in some way. I’ll still fly United for the double mileage bonus and free upgrades, but I’m curious to see how this will effect their business.
