Last of the Mohegans

So today I took a trip up to Mohegan Sun with my Mom, my brother, and Mari Pi. I didn’t really want to go, since gambling isn’t a good idea for me, but I knew it would make my Mom happy. After a rough start, it turned out to be a good trip.

The drive up was long. Killer traffic on 95 made it a four-hour trip (double the normal time). I haven’t been in a car that long in ages and I was going batty towards the end of the trip. We had an excellent lunch (chicken-fried steak!) when we arrived and then it was gambling time for the other three. It’s not a good time for me to be gambling and I know the old temptations would be there, so I stayed away from the casino. I spent 90 minutes talking to my lady and another 30 drinking coffee and sending SMSs. Eventually, I stepped on the casino floor to find the others. My Mom really wanted me to play something because she didn’t think I was enjoying, so I took the $20 she gave me to make her happy. It took me less than 20 minutes to turn it into $145. Thankfully it was time to go or the rush would have made me want to keep going.

We drove back down to NY and had an excellent dinner (Hong Kong food) in Queens and dropped of Mari Pi. It was a long day, but it was nice to spend time with my family. It’s my last night in NY. The only friends I got to see were Rob and Kenny. My brother is moving to Hawaii on 6-January, so this will be the last time we’ll all be together for a long time. It might not be until Christmas…then again, maybe there’s a September wedding we’ll have to attend.
