Thank You Chico

Posted in sports stuff on 8 May 2007 by R.Pad

Diego “Chico” Corrales died. He was only 29, his career was winding down, and he left behind a few kids. Chico was one of my favorite boxers to watch. He wasn’t the most talented, but the effort he gave and the heart he showed were second to none. His fight with Jose Luis Castillo was, by far, the most brilliant fight of my lifetime. Thanks for the excellent memories Chico. Rest in peace.

Diet Coke Plus

It was one sale. I needed change for the bus. It came in a pretty bottle. It was fortified with minerals and vitamins. It tasted awful. I shall never drink Diet Coke Plus ever again.

The Oscar Goes To….

Posted in sports stuff on 7 May 2007 by R.Pad

Well, hopefully Oscar goes into retirement — Oscar De La Hoya that is. A bunch of us watched the De La Hoya / Mayweather fight on Saturday. It was a close, tactical fight that Mayweather clearly won. I imagine the girls were rather bored. Mayweather’s style is too subtle (lots of brilliant feints, shoulder rolls, counters, etc.) and lacks brutality (he maybe stunned Oscar once in the fight). He’s probably the best boxer alive today, but he’s hardly exciting.

Spider Sense…Tingling

Posted in media rants on 4 May 2007 by R.Pad

I caught an early showing of Spider-Man 3 today. It was pretty fun. Here are some random thoughts on it. Some of them are spoilers, so I’ll continue after the break.

Retail Therapy

Posted in feelings on 3 May 2007 by R.Pad

I was doing my daily tech reading when I stumbled upon an Andy Grove interview. He’s an Intel founder, so I usually stop and read when his name pops up. He was talking about “retail clinics” and how they’re going to disrupt traditional health care. As someone that doesn’t have health insurance at the moment, I was pretty fascinated by the subject. It turns out that there’s a clinic less than two miles away from me that just opened in 2007. It’s supposed to be pretty good and the company behind it is pretty sharp.

I should probably go for a check up. I’ve felt off the last five days or so. Hearing about my dad’s health just added to the stress about finding a new job and getting my Mahal a visa (and being apart from her). I feel like my blood pressure is high or something and I’ve been having these panic attacks (they kind of wig me out because I’ve only had two or three of them before). Ah…the bumps we have in life.

Another Top 9 and Another iProduct

Here’s a list of The Top 9 Dumbest Moments in Pro-Wrestling History. There are lots of stupid videos for you to enjoy. Click on some ads when you’re done watching!

I’ve switched to iGoogle from My Yahoo! as my home page. Despite the stupid name, I really like iGoogle. It has all the news feeds I want, plus some really excellent widgets. The only thing I don’t like is the background choices. I’d rather have a dark background and light text. Anyway, it’s much more useful than My Yahoo! I really want to cut down on my use of Y! products. Their mail sucks. They have a crappy videogame site. And their voice service irritates me. I’m happy I found a replacement for My Y! Go go Google!!!

Did I Miss Something?

When the hell did purple become the official colour of Mother’s Day? More importantly, what does Prince think about all this?

Seriously though, I’ve never ever heard about this until today. Motorola is releasing a special Mother’s Day RAZR that’s all purpled out and united.com is purplefied for the holiday. Is this a recent marketing scam or have I just been ignorant about the purplefication of Mother’s Day?
