Oh Fine

Posted in Uncategorized on 29 April 2006 by R.Pad

Well, this blog is pretty well hidden (so I think), so I don't mind doing this at all. If you comment….
1. I'll respond with something random I like about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll name something we should do together.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me).
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll leave you a quote that is somehow appropriate to you.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.

If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal so you can do the same for other people.

More Photos! More Updates!

Here are a batch of pics from my last Songkran fight. That one really took a toll on me. I suppose walking around sopping wet for three days was bound to get me a bit sick. It's great fun though and I want everyone to experience it once. Tuk's been a bit of a homebody lately. Generally, she doesn't like going out during the day because she's "scared of the sun." Thai people really don't like getting tan–they think really dark skin is unattractive. The sun + all the water play going on has left her stuck in my room. She's getting a little batty today and she can't wait for Songkran to be over tonight.

I also have a batch of random photos for your viewing pleasure. There's some cool stuff in here. Martin got pretty plastered one evening, cranked up the AC/DC, and rocked out. It's his bar so he can do whatever the hell he wants. The set also has this really adorable picture of Tuk. I love how she looks in it. So cute!!!

Thailand Update

The last few days have been crazy, fun, and quite the learning experience. I had my first Songkran water fight. Wow. It was SO much fun and I want all my friends to experience it. It's pretty tame in some parts of town, but where I went, it was the biggest-ass water-fight I've ever seen in my life.

Saturday was Tuk's birthday. I threw her a party at her bar. She had fun for a while and it was cool to watch all the different customs. She had some drama earlier in the day (she's really not getting along with my friend Jimmy) and I "made bad" later that evening. I've been told that telling the truth is good to Thai people, but telling a little lie to make everyone look good is much, much better. The weirdest thing about the whole evening, for me anyway, is hearing people call Tuk my girlfriend and call me her boyfriend. At wigged me out at first, but I became comfortable with it later.

Life with Tuk has been a rollercoaster. I'm really like her–like very, very a lot. I've made some mistakes and she's made some too. A lot of it stems from cultural differences and some of it stems from having never lived with a girl before (that thing with Vickie doesn't count). The biggest problem we've had is that her boss told her some of the things Jimmy said about her when he was drunk. Jimmy's a fantastic friend, but he does get out of hand when he's blotto. So I'm kind of stuck in an uncomfortable situation. Thankfully, the last few days have been great. We've been talking about things a lot and we understand each other better. Best of all, we haven't had any problems!

Who knows…. If that crazy job comes through, I think I'd ask her to live with me. She'd take good care of me, keep me in line a little bit, and be a good live-in. I already have our house picked out too!

31 Flavors

Here are 31 random pictures from Thailand. Things are pretty fun. Tuk and I are having a good time. Kung is doing my laundry. There's random drama here and there–most of it stemming from alcohol. I've been behaving though (mostly)! Songkran starts soon. It's going to be a week of water dousing and powder throwing. I'm excited for the whole thing. It should be a unique experience. Hopefully I figure out the right places to hide, or getting bombarded by arsenals of waterguns will get old fast. Speaking of which, I better go to Big C to pick my ordnance.

A Rocky Start

Things in Thailand are mostly pretty good. It’s been fantastic catching up with Jimmy and Donnegan. I’ve made several quick visits to see friends and drop off gifts–I definitely need to spend more time with certain people though (I feel bad that I haven’t seen much of Keith). The only downer is that things with Tuk are kind of going…not so well. She’s getting weird on me and I might have to get rid of her soon since it’s becoming a drag on my friends and me. It’s a shame because I really like her, but I really don’t care to go through any drama. If I wanted that junk I’d date a western girl. Ha! Anyway, here’s the first batch of pics from my trip.

My Next Adventure

Posted in feelings on 6 April 2006 by R.Pad

I'm at the airport waiting for my plane to board. Thirty more minutes and I'm off to Thailand!!! I'm super excited. Oddly enough, I'm more excited to see Jimmy and Donnegan than Tuk. I think my committment issues are kicking in already. B.B agrees.

It's funny. I'm running off, leaving behind lots of unresolved issues. Professionally, there's nothing really going on for me yet. Two of the opportunities I had for E3 didn't pan out. I'm not disappointed, since they were both last-minute things. If anything, it's making me resent Yahoo! even more. Hopefully something will pan out. There are longer term things that should take off, but I really wanted to do some hosting stuff for E3. Oh well, I'll wait and see what happens.

Romantically…well yeah, there's always some sort of nonsense with me isn't there? Thankfully I'm running away from potential spiderwebs and shall be in the arms of a lovely young girl. I wonder how that will turn out. Will she want to kill me after ten days? Donnegan is trying something similar with Kung, though I think his deal is more about lust. That's what I get for being the mushy one.

Actual Realities

Tonight was the first of two father-daughter baseball games. Glenda and I went to Oakland to catch our beloved Yankees. They lost in the ninth inning, but it was a good game–solid pitching, back and forth leads, etc. Hopefully our team wins tomorrow.

I had lunch with Kit earlier today. It's funny, I live with him but I haven't really spent any time with in like six weeks. We've both been travelling for work and play. It was good to catch up for a bit. I'll check on him again in a month when I get back from my trip. Ha!

Alternate Realities

Posted in feelings on 4 April 2006 by R.Pad

Remember my New York trip last November? It was like living in a snow globe–I just felt really detached from reality, but in a good way. The last week was pretty much like that. I spent five nights and six days in Chicago for a business trip. It was lots of fun (though that city is frickin' cold!) and I had some pretty unique experiences. I attended WrestleMania 22 and a Ring of Honor show. I got to meet a bunch of WWE talent. I discovered my new favorite wrestler. Mimicking HBK's storyline from WM22, the trip marked the return of old-school Raymond. I had like two drinks the whole trip, which might be hard for some people to believe. I spent almost all my free time hanging out with Justin, which was super awesome–it was the most time we've spent together in probably a few years. The whole trip felt like a break from reality.

I didn't really come back to reality either. Last night I had a super fun evening with someone I rarely get to spend time with. There wasn't a whole lot to the night. It was very simple, but very precious too. It was just a night out chatting and drinking, but I won't forget the things we said and did for a long while.

At this rate, I won't hit reality until mid-May. I'm off to Thailand on Thursday, I get back two days before I leave for E3, and then it's time for the big show. Escapism??? Partially. I'm also looking for something. I'm not sure what it is or where it is and I'm not certain I'll find it, but I ain't gonna find nuthin' if I don't look.
